Take Your Place Among Bold Women in the Birthplace of American Liberty
LexSeeHer is a 501(c)3 non-profit community organization, working to make women visible. Beginning in 2020 they launched a campaign to bring a new monument to the historic district in Lexington, Massachusetts, to make women visible in the Birthplace of American Liberty.
LexSeeHer put out a Call to Artist and selected Meredith Bergmann’s concept called “Something Is Being Done”. Bergmann’s design features more than 20 women and girls from across different periods of history, each with strong Lexington connections.
The women in the monument have different identities — age, profession, race, culture, areas of interest. Collectively they illustrate women’s economic, political, intellectual, artistic, and cultural contributions. The monument emphasizes that women have ben here all along, contributing to the community, the Commonwealth, the country, and beyond. LexSeeHer invites you to take your place at the center of the work: take time to be among women from the past and consider how you might blaze a trail for a brighter future.
